Vinyl trim is a popular choice for exterior window trim due to its durability and low maintenance requirements. While vinyl trim comes in a variety of colors, a homeowner can sometimes find it necessary to paint vinyl trims. Painting vinyl trim on exterior windows is a simple process that requires little preparation to ensure the color runs smoothly and lasts.

Instructions

Pour a cup of detergent into a gallon bucket and fill the remainder of the bucket with cold water. Scrub vinyl trim with detergent uses a medium brush. Make sure all dirt and grime is removed. Rinse the trim thoroughly with cold water.  Pour 1/2 cup oxygen bleach into one liter size spray bottle. Spray moldy areas of vinyl trim with bleach and scrub with a medium brush until you have removed the entire mold. Rinse the area thoroughly with cold water.

Allow vinyl to dry completely. If your vinyl trim does not have mold, skip this step. Paint vinyl trim with an outer latex paint containing urethane. Use a straight edge to protect the home siding when painting the sides of the vinyl trim. Allow the paint to dry completely before a second layer. You will probably need at least two layers of color to achieve the desired color.
